THIS COLLECTION INCLUDES FANNIE BRICE'S 1ST RECORDING. EDDIE CANTOR (b. January 31, 1892 – d. October 10, 1964) Both his parents died when he was an infant, leaving him to be raised by his beloved grandmother, Esther Kantrowitz. Cantor made his Broadway debut in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1917. He continued in the Follies until 1927. For several years Cantor co-starred in an act with pioneer African-American comedian Bert Williams, both appearing in blackface. Other co-stars with Cantor during his time in the Follies included Will Rogers, Marilyn Miller, Fanny Brice and W.C. Fields. He moved on to stardom in musicals, starting with Kid Boots (1923), Whoopee! (1928) and Banjo Eyes (1941). Several of his popular recordings are presented in this CD release. On Oct.10, 1964, he suffered a heart attack & died, aged 72. FANNIE or FANNY BRICE (b. October 29, 1891 – d. May 29, 1951) She was a popular Vaudeville, Musical Comedy, Film and Radio Entertainer. In 1908, Brice dropped out of school to work in a burlesque revue. She was a headliner with Florenz Ziegfeld in his Ziegfeld Follies from 1910 to 1911. She was hired again in 1921 and performed into the 1930's. She recorded nearly two dozen record sides for Victor and also cut several for Columbia. Her selections represented here are from her Ziegfeld period. Fannie Brice died May 29, 1951, in Hollywood at the age of 59, of a cerebral hemorrhage. BERT WILLIAMS (b. November 12, 1874 – d. March 4, 1922) One of the preeminent entertainers of the Vaudeville era and one of the most popular comedians for all audiences of his time. He was by far the best-selling black recording artist before 1920. In 1918, the New York Dramatic Mirror called Williams "one of the great comedians of the world." Williams was a key figure in the development of African-American entertainment. In an age when racial inequality and stereotyping were commonplace. He became the first black American to take a lead role in the Ziegfeld Follies, and did much to push back racial barriers during his career. He joined the Follies in 1910 and continued until 1919. This CD release includes his last recording “Not Lately” made 2 months before his untimely death at age 47 of pneumonia. ******************************************************************************************** Presenting a great selection of comic songs from the Ragtime & 1920's Jazz Era. This CD is mastered by vintage-recordings.com. We have been producing quality CD and Cassette transfers for over 30 years. Each transfer is made from a master and you receive the best quality possible from these wonderful vintage recordings. The source material is from our archives of over 20,000 discs and cylinders. Each release is about 1 hour in length. The finest production equipment for the transfer, mastering and manufacturing of our cassettes and CDs is used. Each disc and cylinder is first cleaned to remove any artifacts that may produce extra surface noise or distortions. A custom made stylus is selected for that particular recording to provide the best transfer. This is selected based on the age, type of medium, and existing wear on the record. Each record is correctly adjusted for pitch and playback speed. The "78" r.p.m. record was not always recorded at 78 r.p.m. The speed adjustment varied from 76 to 90 r.p.m. This was dependant on the manufacturer of the disc and the year the disc was recorded. Cylinders were generally recorded at 160 r.p.m but this speed also varied. A combination of advanced filtering using graphic, parametric and digital filters are used to provide the cleanest most natural sounding transfer of the vintage records. After the recordings are mastered further editing is performed using advanced sound restoration software. Our time consuming transfer process has been adjusted, refined and perfected over the last 30 years. We now bring some of our best selling releases to the Ebay community. Enjoy. Several Items will have a symbol next to a song. You can listen to a sound clip with the windows media player.
