Description: Walt Disney 1940 Tailwaggers Academy Award BOSCAR Pluto MOST PROMISING DOG Actor Historic Walt Disney Treasures from Saturday's Toys presents... a vintage Disney Studio photostat print of the award presented to Pluto for the "Tailwagger's Academy Award 1940 Most Promising Dog Actor." Printed on 8.5" x 11" vintage photostat paper and presenting the 8" x 10" black and white photo of the historic award presented at the Tailwaggers Foundation annual banquet ceremony on February 25, 1940. This particular image was created in August 1954 during production of Walt's new "Disneyland" television program as preparations were underway for Season 1; Episode 6 ("A Story of Dogs") as broadcast on Wed. Dec. 1, 1954 on the ABC Television Network. The episode included a glimpse into "Pluto's Picture Book" and an extended tribute to Pluto with a review of his animated exploits and a mention of two important awards. First was this very Tailwaggers Award (showing the back side of the trophy with engraving shown); and the Academy Award "Oscar" that was presented as the Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel (delayed two months due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor) to Walt Disney (Producer) on February 26, 1942 celebrating Pluto's appearance in "Lend a Paw" (1941) and honored as "Best Short Subject - Cartoon." However, when the earlier 1940 award (pictured in this listing) was first presented, the engraved plaque was actually mounted on the reverse side of the trophy; away from the two plugs that are best viewed from the opposite side. The award, as it is shown in this photo, appears to have a blank metal plaque... but in fact, the engraving was displayed on the back side. The engraving, as pictured in the television program, reads as follows: "Tailwaggers' Academy Award 1940 Most Promising Dog Actor" (also referenced at the time as a "Boscar" award). In more recent times, the award's presentation was slightly altered by changing the engraved plaque's display to the "front" side of the trophy; beneath the two plugs on the fire hydrant. Today, the award is proudly displayed in Walt Disney's restored office in the Animation Building (3rd Floor) at the historic Walt Disney Studio. As originally acquired from the Disney Photo Archives by Eileene Muzzarelli, former Merchandising Manager for the Disney Auctions eBay sales program (2000 - 2004) The official Disney Photo Archives file number is written in pencil on reverse with specific archive reference: 854-40 (aka August 1954; Image #40). Additional photos for illustration only; only the 8.5" x 11" vintage photostat of the Tailwaggers Award is included with the listing.
