The hatchet is in good used condition with some original paint left. I did remove some of the rust but not all so it could be shined up by the next owner to be sharp looking. The edge is very sharp and appear to have been re sharpened very little. The original diamond finish is still visible as you can see in photos. I believe this to be the original handle and it appears to have initials carved into them. When I got it it had electrical tape around the off color area on the wood handle, assuming to contain the split. The original shapleigh embodiment on the handle has faded off over time.
