Description: This is a 1909 Portland Postcard Co. postcard, unposted. It was the official postcard of the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in Seattle, Washington. See below for some interesting historical information about the original owner of the card. It has nothing to do with Seattle, but it’s still pretty cool. . I found the postcard at the Evanston, Illinois estate of Robert Russell Jones, originally of Topeka Kansas, Jones had a successful career in journalism, culminating in him being anppointed editor of Industrial Research magazine. His work at Industrial Research is what brought him and his family to Chicago. His wife was the author Dorothy V. Jones. Robert Russell Jones’ grandmother, Mary (Mollie) Strawn Carter (the owner of the postcard) married to John R. Carter. John R. Carter was the great grandson of the Potawatomi missionary Robert Simerwell. His grandmother was Elizabeth Simerwell Carter, the first non-indigenous female born in Kansas. As far as I can tell, Molly and John did not attend the Exposition. They likely received it from Molly’s sister. The card is in good vintage condition, note that there is some staining, corner wear, and edge wear. Look at all of my postcards! I am happy to combine shipping. Just ask either before or after your purchase. It all works,
