VINTAGE Coalport Indian Tree Dessert SMOOTH Plate Green Crown Mark 5 3/4"

Description: This is one exceptional Bread and Butter/Dessert Plate that was made by Coalport, England in the famous Indian tree pattern. The pattern includes the crooked, coral-like branches of a leafy, flowering tree set in an exotic landscape.The most Indian Tree patterns were made in green, blue, pink, orange, coral or multicolor. This pattern was produced for many years so over the years there are slight changes in sizes or intensity of the colors. The plate has an older standard Crown mark.I have more pieces of the same patternThe plate is 5 3/4" in diameter.The plate is in good condition. I can't see any chips, cracks or repairs. Could have some utensils marks and some minimal crazing, consistent with age It is a Lovely looking piece and could be admired for many years to come. There is a long list of companies that produced Indian Tree patterned wares over the years.The original manufacturer was Coalport who debuted the pattern in 1802 in their England factory.The pattern was an immensely popular and large section of the factory was devoted to the production of it. Fledgling china painters apprenticed at the factory, learning to decorate the Indian Tree wares. The colors were hand painted over a black transfer outline. The exact origin of the design is undetermined though there are tales of fabric swatches and paper brought back from the Far East.The history of Coalport China begins in 1750 when Squire Edward Brown started Caughley China to produce clay dinnerware using clay and coal found on his estate. Indian Tree was a very successful pattern for Coalport – in fact, at the height of the design’s popularity, the company dedicated an entire department to its production! Check out my other items!
