Description: This large striking brooch is attributed to Miriam Haskell and most likely made during the war years of the early 1940’s. During this time the typical filigree metal back plate was switched to a plastic backing to aid in the war effort. Another clue pointing to early Haskell is the use of natural materials, these are hardwood seed pods, possibly from the tropical Pili nut tree. The seed pods are either wired directly off the plastic backing or dangle from a short plastic chain. This is a beautifully layered 3 dimensional design of a lovely soft brown color. This unsigned brooch has been confirmed Haskell with the help of the online Haskell community. 4” from top to bottom, 3” wide, overall condition is excellent.
