Description: Offering a vintage 1930-40's era SHURE Model 9842/717B Microphone. These were originally handheld crystal mics, but when they died, they were non-repairable. We removed the dead crystal and installed a dynamic capsule for a wider frequency response, allowing to be be used for more diverse applications. (Check out the voice sample on the listing video.) We also removed the mic handle and mounted the Tenite casing within a 5" metal ring assembly, mounting it to a adjustable-height desk stand...total height 15-19". (Tenite is a thermal plastic material used in the 1930's, an alternative to Bakelite.) Now this unit has that old school look with strong output, still retaining that vintage sound, and ready for use with any modern amplifier, audio interface, or mixer. (We can swap the 1/4" male phono plug for a male XLR plug at no charge if you prefer.)
