The 361st Aerial Weapons Company (AWC) was a hard-fighting Cobra Gunship Company assigned to the Flying Dragons of the 52nd Combat Aviation Battalion (CAB) and based at Camp Holloway near Pleiku. The 361st AWC was the smallest aviation unit in the 52nd CAB. However they were assigned the battalion’s most difficult and hazardous missions. The 361st AWC provided gunship support for the II Corps rugged tri-border area of the Central Highlands. The 361st AWC worked closely with the 5th Special Forces Group and seen heavy action in the area around Dak To and Dak Seang. The company was also responsible for the defense of a sector of the perimeter at Camp Holloway as well as providing airfield defense. The Cobra Gunship’s of the Pink Panthers were always on stand-by and on primary alert 24 hours a day and maintained the capability of being scrambled in less than two minutes. 361st proudly led the way establishing the Traditions of Army Aviation and helped write the Bible on Air Assault.
