Description: Unique and interesting Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) lacquered and inlaid wood trinket box. The box is made of wood, has a clear lacquer finish, and is inlaid with the ROKAF emblem in brass and silver-toned metal, four silver-toned metal stars, and “Republic of Korea Air Force” in brass letters. The box measures approximately 6 1/2" x 4 1/4" x 2 1/8". The lid fits on top of the box and is not hinged. The box also has a brass plate that reads, “PRESENTED BY GENERAL OCK, MAN HO CHIEF OF STAFF, R.O.K. AIR FORCE.” The brass plate has come off the box, but it may have been affixed to the inside of the lid. General Ock, Man Ho was the ROKAF Chief of Staff from 1971-1974, so the box is ostensibly from this time period. The box is from the estate of retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel Marion "Mack" Angel (1937-2024), a distinguished fighter pilot who flew the F-100 Super Sabre, F-105 Thunderchief, and F-4E Phantom II. Lt. Colonel Angel flew 100 F-105 Wild Weasel combat missions “up north” during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the USAF “Thunderbirds” aerial demonstration team from 1967-1969, flying the F-100 and F-4E in the Left Wing position (aircraft number 2). The box appears to be in “good minus” to good used condition with signs of wear and age, such as scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, chips, indentations, some separation and cracks between layers of wood on the lid, dried adhesive and/or minor stains, wear on the edges and corners, and some loss of finish. Some of the imperfections may be a result of the manufacturing process. Please review photos carefully, as they constitute part of the description.
