Description: This is a wood body plane made by Sandusky Tool Company under the Ogontz brand name. The name Ogontz came from an Ottowa Indian Chief that lived in the Sandusky area in the early years of the 1800's and was very helpful to the area settlers during the war of 1812. In 1905, Sandusky Tool Co produced an estimated 75% of the wood body planes sold in America by woodworker craftsman There is not a date of manufacture on this tool however estimated to be around 1930's or prior. The tool is 16" long, 2.75" wide and approximately 5.5" tall at the top of the handle.Included is a well used "knife" and has the block of wood which locks the knifeThe knife would need finishing to be used effectively. The knife has an adjustment screw integrated into the blade which I have not seen before. The knife has no identifying marks on it. My late grandfather owned this and he was a high school industrial arts "shop" teacher and he made many pieces of furniture which his ancestors (including me) have in our homes. Comes from a smoke free / air conditioned home. This item has been stored in my workshop for 40 years and my grandfather passed in 1955 so no use since that time. This is a treasure from the past. I had done some research on Sandusky Tool Company which I will enclose in the package. Appreciate your interest in this incredible piece from the American industrial age.
