Description: Stock printed by Woodruff Printing Co., Lincoln, Nebr. Two varieties, both with eagle vignettes. Carl W. Renstrom (1902"1981) was a businessman and multi-millionaire from Omaha, Nebraska, who amassed his fortune by selling hair curlers and other hair accessories. He founded Tip-Top Products, a company that became highly successful in the beauty industry, particularly for its innovative hair care products. Renstrom's entrepreneurial achievements made him a prominent figure in Omaha's business community during his lifetime. The Tip Top Products Company, an Omaha-based business, was renowned for inventing and manufacturing the bobby pin and the pink hair curler. For more than 40 years, these products were produced at North 16th and Cuming Street. Once hailed as the worlds largest manufacturer of hair products, the company played a pivotal role in Omaha's industrial history. Carl W. Renstrom, a graduate of Commerce High School, founded the company and initially started by selling solder in a tube, which he produced in his basement and sold through stores and mail orders. Tip Top Products operated from two different factories in Omahas North Downtown neighborhood. The first was a two-story brick building at 1508 Burt Street, where the company moved in around 1929. In 1935, they relocated to a larger, five-story factory at 1515 Cuming Street, which had previously been a Ford Model A plant. This new location became the heart of Tip Tops operations. In 1936, Tip Top patented the "Tip Top Easy Curler," a simple metal hair curler, which became a massive success. By 1964, Tip Top held 24 patents and produced over 600 products. That same year, the company was sold to a Minnesota firm for $25 million, which later rebranded the company under the Faberge name. Faberge continued operations in Omaha, including at a nearby facility at 1524 Cuming Street, until 1981. Today, the Tip Top Products Company is a part of Omaha's industrial past, with little remaining to commemorate its presence except for the apartments housed in its former factory building.
