The book is a comprehensive study of the Western films directed by the great John Ford. Harry Carey Jr. (1921-2012) was a distinguished American film actor best known for being a member of director John Ford’s stock company appearing in such classics as The Searchers, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, Three Godfathers, Wagonmaster, Cheyenne Autumn, Rio Grande, The Long Gray Line, etc. He was in the cast of director Howard Hawks’ masterwork, Red River. Among other directors, for whom Carey worked, include William A. Wellman, Henry Hathaway, Lindsay Anderson, George Cosmatos, Peter Bogdanovich, Joe Dante, Edward Dmytryk, Robert Mulligan, Andrew V. McLaglen, Burt Kennedy, etc. A long time friend of actor John Wayne, Carey worked with many famous Hollywood actors including Marilyn Monroe.
