It is made of beautiful marbled brown celluloid, with the appearance of mother-of-pearl floating in a sea of brown and black. The celluloid was cured for over six years. The pen has a black resin cap and 24k gold plated trim. The clip may be adjusted to accommodate the user's grip. It is graced with a soft and springy 18k fine point nib. This special pen was made to honor Iris, the daughter of a member of the family of the founder of the Stipula company. The pen is unusual in that it recreates the functioning of the early "safety" fountain pens, which had mechanisms that retracted the nib into the ink chamber - however, in this pen, the retracting nib unit is fitted with a piston filling ink reservoir. The pen employs a small black resin cap that is used both to cover the retracted nib and to extend and retract it for use and filling. The story of the pen, as well as instructions for filling, using, and maintaining the pen are detailed in the included original booklet. This pen was lightly used and in very good condition. There may be some minor scratches from light usage. The included original box and papers are in good condition, despite age, but the outer cardboard sleeve shows some wear.
