This is being cut from a roll of fabric. If you buy multiple yards, you will receive your order in one continuous piece. Shibori is a traditional Japanese technique in which elaborate designs are hand-stitched on undyed fabric. The fabric is then dyed. Finally, the stitching is removed to reveal a complex pattern. This yardage was made by hand in Yunnan, China using the same traditional, labor-intensive technique. It duplicates a traditional Japanese design. Most often produced in natural indigo and white, Japanese shibori fabrics - traditionally used for kimonos, yukatas, and household items - were almost always woven in widths of approximately 14". These narrow panels would then have to be sewn together to construct a kimono or another item. thus limiting how the fabrics could be used. In contrast, this yardage is a full 36" wide. It's ideal for all your projects: garments, home dec, pillow covers, quilting, art to wear, you name it. This is a very high-quality broadcloth with a beautiful drape. For example, we have bathrobes and a duvet cover made out of this fabric and it drapes, washes, and wears beautifully, with next-to-no wrinkling.The close-up photo is the most accurate color representation. (Please keep in mind that monitors vary.) Washing instructions: This yardage is pre-washed, but we recommend you pre-wash cold then tumble dry low before sewing to remove excess indigo.
