The Governors Palace is a three-story red brick exterior palace that completed about 1720 and served as a symbol of the power of the crown in colonial Virginia. There is a bell tower rising two new stories from the dark brown shingled roof, and a white trim deck encloses the belfry. There is a white railing extending between two red brick fireplaces on either end of the Third-floor roof. The building's exterior has five white trimmed windows on each floor. There are two trees with green leaves growing on either corner of this mansion, with a red brick wall surrounding the property. The entry gate is black wrought iron with two brick posts on either side that hold two lanterns. This mansion served as the official residence for seven different Virginia governors, the last being Lord Dunmore who had to flee from it before dawn, thereby ending British rule.
