Description: Ryan Weideman is a graduate (MA) of the California College of Arts & Crafts. Upon graduation he moved to NYC to ply his trade. But after a month he found himself hard pressed to pay his rent. A chance encounter with a neighbor who drove a cab lead to Weideman doing the same. And he has continued to do so, now half-time, for the next 30+ years. Weideman came to realize that his passengers were an interesting and unusual combination of people, inviting photographic subjects. He began to take their images, with and without their permission. The result was a highly recognized body of work that has led to his photographs being displayed in individual and institutional collections and the recipient of awards (e.g., Guggenhein Fellowship, New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, and an NEA Grant). Offered for sale is his hard to find In My Taxi: New York After Hours (New York, 1991). Softcover, 1st ed., 1st ptg,104 unnumbered pp. Flat signed? and also personally signed and dated Feb, 5, 2000. The last of the photographs is of Allen Ginsberg, the celebrated poet and scholar who inscribed and dated it (see photos). Horizontal crease on front cover; otherwise, near fine. A very good copy of scarce collectible work. Two unsigned copies offered by online sellers @ $340+. Don’t be shy; give it a try. Doc deals!
