Its mold number 6539 was designed during WWII, and became known as the “Rookwood Patriotic Vase”. Encircling the vase are two young women dancing in the night sky, stars around them, stripes in their hair and clothes, thus creating a rendition of the American flag. Stars and figures are tactile. Pale yellow in the Wax Primrose translucent gloss glaze. Shape of “Patriotic” vase by John D. Wareham; Design by Elizabeth Barrett, artist at Rookwood from 1924-1948. 9.25”H x 5.25”W x 5.25”D. Top Diameter=5.25”. Base Diameter=3”. WT=2 lbs. ABOUT THE COMPANY: Cincinnati’s Rookwood Pottery opened its doors in 1880, and continues to be the most celebrated and collected American pottery. By the time Rookwood merged with Tiffany & Company in 1967, the financial damage to the Pottery, caused by the Great Depression, could not be undone. Rookwood closed its kilns the same year.
