Description: British Parliament 1925 Vintage Lithograph Plan for Gare de Lyon, Train Station, Paris, c1900 French History Illustration PrintLYON STATION XII districtIn 1847, a pier was first located at this location, a simple wooden bridge intended for boarding passengers of the Paris to Lyon and Mediterranean Railway Company (PLM). The location opposite the so-called “Mazas” prison displeased the PLM, which tried in vain to obtain another location from the State. As traffic continued to grow, the pier was replaced in 1855 by a stone building, located on a hillock to protect it from the floods of the Seine. The architect Marius Toudoire, who designed several stations, drew up plans for a new building in 1900. The prison was then demolished, not only to make way for the new station, but also so that nothing would tarnish the happiness of visitors. of the Universal Exhibition, which was going to take place, upon their arrival. Major attraction of the station: the clock perched on a 67-meter belfry, with dials on all four sides. There is also the large glass roof, an architectural heritage which has been carefully maintained. It was increased by two others during major works undertaken in 2010. In 1900, the PLM company had a buffet built, where travelers could eat in a pleasant setting. The establishment, with its vast rooms, its plump seats, its gilding and its forty-one paintings, renamed Blue Train in 1963 and classified as a Historic Monument in 1970, counted among its faithful Coco Chanel and Marcel Pagnol. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
