Description: INCREDIBLY NICE CONDITION COPPER COIN 1661 found by members of our staff years ago in Puerto Rico. These coins were left in circulation for many years, thus are mostly found in low grades, but not this coin. These coins were hand hammered, on whichever copper blanks they had on hand, so coins were of various thickness, featured clipped planchets, off center strikes, heavy or slight strikes, splits and cracks and many other defects. Each coin is different. This coin received a heavy strike helping it retain a lot of detail even after many years in circulation and several hundred years buried in the soil. Coin # 234 - PR Slightly off center coin Nationality undetermined - small denomination coin about US dime size approximately or slightly smaller. This coin was found as part of a small cache consisting of 78 coins of various nationalities, sizes, and denomination in what its believed to have once been the site of a sugar plantation. The general area was said to have been frequented by some of the local pirates.
