Description: Pickard China originally started in Edgerton WI in 1894 & is still in business today in Antioch IL - the only remaining US manufacturer of fine porcelain china. People are often confused that "China" in the name of the company means that it was made in China but that is part of their company name and just refers to the ceramic body of their pieces. As with many companies in the early 1900's, ceramic "blanks" were often imported from other countries and then the glazes/decorating were added at Pickard. By the late 1930s, Pickard was both producing and glazing its own porcelain pieces. Pickard is well known for their gold detailed decoration and the "rose and daisy" pattern ca. 1930-40s was popular with their dinnerware and decorative pieces. Each piece in this salt and pepper set is about 4-7/8 inches tall and tapers up on each angular side from the base that is about 1-1/4 inches wide to the bell-shaped top that is about 7/8 inch wide on each side. No Pickard marking can be seen on the bottom but this is the distinctive rose and daisy pattern made by Pickard. Both the salt - with large holes - and pepper - with smaller holes - are in good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, crazing, or wear to gold.
