Around 1908, Joesph Matthew Ditto (1866-1946) opened his business in Monte Vista in Rio Grande County, Colorado. He had been born in Iowa and, prior to moving to Monte Vista, had been a jeweler in Lincoln Park (near Canon City in Fremont County, Colorado). In 1914 he was noted to be serving on the executive committee of the Colorado State Optical Society.
