It is exquisitely hand crocheted in a tweeded art knitin bright cobalt, tangerine, aqua, lilac, geranium and black. Soft andsubstantial in baby alpaca (61%), polyamide (33%) and merino wool (6%), therelaxed design is whimsically styled with a chunky ribbed t-neck that isthreaded with a colorful tasseled drawstring, drop shoulders and widebracelet-length sleeves; rolled-edge trim. It is an extra-large size with arelaxed fit. It is made in Peru and is dry clean only. Alpaca fiber is lighterand warmer than wool, and has a luxurious softness, and silky sheen.Peruvian Connection was launched in 1976 by mother anddaughter team Biddy and Annie Hurlbut. While researching anthropology in Peru,Annie, a 19-year-old Yale student, fell in love with extraordinary hand-wovenmantas and ponchos she discovered in the markets of Cuzco, the ancient capitalof the Incas.Fascinated by these ethnographic textiles, she begancollecting them, learning everything she could about the spinning and dyeing ofthe alpaca fibers, the warp-faced weaving techniques, and the ancient textiletraditions of the Andes. Along the way, Annie encountered some rather simplebut extraordinarily soft and luxurious sweaters, all knit of the same alpacafibers, and she bought one for her mother’s upcoming 50th birthday.Once home in Kansas, Annie presented the gift and hermother Biddy and friends were fascinated with the sweater. Soon after, Annieand Biddy began importing a small range of sweater styles, which Annie designedand produced in Peru and Biddy sold from her home in Kansas. And with that,Peruvian Connection was born. Although the company has grown since that firstsweater changed hands, the original goal remains the same: to offer artisanmade, original designs in native Andean luxury fibers. Today, Peruvian Connection’scollections are created by a group of extraordinarily talented designers.
