Description: OLD PERU | Rare copper votive idol (10th to 16th century ) Extremely rare massive Tiahuanaco or Inca figurine. Rare votive gif from ancient Peru - and only 1,5 inches high. It was used as an earth offering to the ground and was intended to increase the fertility of the soil and pay the gods. The custom was secretly continued in colonial times, even though it was opposed by the church. The two sides of the figure show different sexual characteristics - it is a rare hybrid of the female and male earth gods Patchamama and Patchapapa, who are supposed to ensure a good harvest, not as a couple but in one figure. These are old originals, not tourist goods. The geometric style, similar to that on the Sun Gate in Tiahuanaco, indicates that they are very old, as do the signs of use and the patina.
