Description: Hello, What I am listing Is a great photo of historical significance. This Is an 8 x 10 group photograph with Paul Tibbets autographing as Instructor Pilot ( how many times have you seen him autograph like that) Dora Strother and Didi Moorman, both have boldly autographed with their names. The man on the far right Is Dean Hudson who certified their Pilot I.D. Cards. The letters amd material scanned are not part of this auction and are for provenance only. The autographs are handsigned on the photograph, they are not a reproduction, scan, copy or forgery of any type and will pass a PSA test. LAST ONEAfter completing over 50 combat missions as a B-17 Pilot flying missions over North Africa In 1942-43, Paul Returned to the United States to become an Instructor Pilot working with the newly designed B-29's. The new B-29's had problems with engine fires, some pilots labeled It as dangerous and refused to fly the aircraft. Paul Tibbets came up with an idea, after a through checkout, Didi Moorman, and Dora Dougherty two very qualified Woman Airforce Service Pilots known as WASPS, flew a B29 to Alamogordo, New Mexico. When men saw that two women could fly a B29 their attitudes changed. Their B29 was named " Ladybird" many on their crew were part of the B29 testing program and later became part of the 509th Composite Group, two flying on Atomic Missions. Dora actually ended up In the 509th Composite Group flying C-54's with Scientists on board testing Proximity Fuses.Dora had to leave Wendover December 20th 1944, when the Wasp program was disbanded. People In the photograph taken In 2001 at Akron Ohio Air Show, L-R Dora, Paul, DiDi, Charles Albury, Amelia Krauss, and I, Robert Krauss, am standing In the back row. This was my Idea to put this group together again after almost 50 years. The autograph on this photo was autographed 20 or more years ago. You are purchasing from an Historian who researched 509th Composite Group photos for 25 years. Most photos being sold were "unearthed" by me. I have sold to collectors, historians and dealers.
