Parris Island Romaine Lettuce - 1000 Seeds

Description: (Lactuca sativa) Classic romaine lettuce produces compact rosettes of upright, dark green leaves. I used to consider Parris Island to be one of those "hardware store varieties"-- you know, the ones you see offered by every seed company at every corner store. Over the years, I've tried numerous modern green romaines and still have yet to find anything that beats ole Parris Island. In the drought of 2013, our Parris Island plants stayed crisp and flavorful while other varieties were bitter and bolting. They haven't seemed to mind wet years either. I've come to realize that Parris Island is popular for a reason-- it's tasty and dependable. I'll keep trying new varieties, but there will always be a spot for Parris Island in my garden. 75 days to harvest. 1000 seeds/pkt. CULTURE: After danger of frost has passed, sow seeds 4-6" apart, 1/8" deep in rows 18-24" apart. Under ideal conditions, germination will occur in 2-14 days.  For best yield, harvest by cutting individual leaves from the plant, leaving the growing tip intact.
