Description: Handsome original antique engraved map of Spain and Portugal, printed more than 225 years ago. There are dozens of place names, and topography is shown in relief. Longitude is measured from London, and the coverage area includes the entire Iberian peninsula, from the Bay of Biscay and the Pyrenees to Gibraltar, as well as the Balearic Islands. Among the other named places and features are Lisbon, Barcelona, Granada, Oporto, Madrid, Toledo, Estremadura, Valencia, Pamplona, Mallorca, Murcia, Silves, Estremadura, Bilboa, Minorca, Seville, the Ebro River, Segovia, and Catalonia. The image area measures 19.5 x 23 cm [7¾" x 9"], longitude is measured from London, and there are two distance scales, calibrated in Spanish Miles and English Statute Miles. The map was drawn and engraved by John Russell. It was published in William Guthrie's A New Geographical, Historical, and Commercial Grammar and Present State of the Several Kingdoms of the World, printed in London by Charles Dilly, 1793. Condition: It is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with two vertical folds, as issued, and no marks, rips, or tears. The map is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side, and there is a small area in the upper right corner where the impression is a bit faint.
