NORITAKE Morimura NIPPON round PLATTER roses floral WITH HANDLES sunrise mark

Description: Offered for bidding is a beautiful antique porcelain HANDLED PLATE, chop plate, or round platter. It was made by the Morimura Bros. of Noritake, Japan. The plate features a delicate floral design with pink cabbage roses, and has two curved handles. It has gold pinstripe decoration. This plate is marked in blue with the Noritake NIPPON sunrise mark on the back (picture 4). Porcelain marked NIPPON was made before 1921, when U.S. import laws were changed to require the country of origin to be marked in English (e.g. Japan) rather than in the language of the originating country (e.g. Nippon). Noritake began using the sunrise mark in 1911. Plate measures 9 3/4 inches (24.8cm) from handle to handle, and 9 1/2 inches (24.1cm) in diameter. A U.S. quarter is included in the second picture, to give an accurate impression of the size at a glance. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or scratches, and no discoloration or crazing of the glaze. The gold decoration shows slight wear.
