Description: This is a figure that features one of my favorite western movie characters, Monte Walsh portrayed by Tom Selleck in the movie.The movie is a remake of the 1970 movie of the same name, starring Lee Marvin. Both movies are based on a 1963 novel by Jack Scaefer. The story set in Montana, centers around Montelius "Monte" Walsh, a typical cowboy toward the end of the 19th century in the waning years of the old West. Monte and his friend Chet (played well by Keith Carradine) are the last of a dyng breed. More comfortable on the back of a horse than anywhere else, they face modernization and the end of their era. The pair take a job at the ranch of Cal Brennan (played by William Devane) where they meet up with an old friend "Shorty" Austin another cowhand at the ranch. The railroad and barbed wire are steadily eliminating the need for cowboys. Chet ends up marrying a widow, Mary Wilder (played by Lori Hallier) who owns a hardware store. Monte and Chet have spent their years not wanting to work at anything that they can't do from the back of a horse. Chet decides their ways have come to an end so he goes to work in his wife's hardware store. "nobody gets to be a cowboy forever Monte". Monte gets caught up in the situation and rides 40 miles to propose to his long time flame, prostitute and saloon girl, "Countess" Martine Bernard who suffers from tuberculosis. I don't want tell you the whole story but there is much more as well as some great lines. "nobody sets a horse like Monte Walsh" this movie is a good one for the western fan or someone that just likes a good story. If you have not seen this movie check it out. You can sometimes catch this movie on one of the streaming services or tv channels that show old westerns. While the figure does not look exactly like Tom Selleck / Monte Walsh there is a nice resemblance. This piece is built more for display and not for play. This is a nice item for the western movie fan.
