Description: [zipedit] Microsoft Windows XP Professional Upgrade (Service Pack 1a) (CD-ROM) This is an operating system CD-ROM disc bundle; the main disc contains a computer operating system named Windows XP. The Windows XP operating system was originally released in 2001, but this is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1a, released in 2003. The service pack number on the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1a disc's holographic artwork remains identified as Service Pack 1, with the operating system's original copyright year of 2001, but according to the disc's file dates, it is actually a slightly updated version of SP1 specifically referred to as SP1a, issued in 2003.For many years, this Windows operating system has been used by various computer users around the world. To this day, it's still used by computer enthusiasts for a variety of retro purposes since it is timeless, and it has also been considered the most iconic computer operating system.Built on the rock-solid foundation of Windows 2000 and designed as the first Microsoft Windows operating system of the third millennium and the 21st century, Windows XP was released to introduce an era consisting of a very intuitive user interface, expanded multimedia capabilities, etc. for home and business computers. As a bonus, it contains the Do Amazing Things with Windows XP update CD-ROM, also released in 2003 and bundled exclusively with copies of Windows XP Service Pack 1a. It has two software program upgrades: Windows Media Player 9 Series, and Windows Movie Maker 2, which would later be included on Windows XP Professional and Home Edition Service Pack 2 by default one year later, in 2004. Both discs have been tested on a Windows ME virtual machine in Oracle VM VirtualBox on a custom-built Windows 10 Home desktop PC. While the CD-ROM disc and cardboard sleeve for Do Amazing Things With Windows XP are in nice shape, a couple sections of the Windows XP Professional SP1a Upgrade disc's folder have black marker writing which is unfortunately too hard to erase since the previous owner I bought it from had left it in place. There is also an odd 1997 date sticker on its front cover, even though Windows XP did not exist until the early 2000s. Same with the black pen writing on one section of the disc folder and the included "Start Here" and "Explore" manuals. The folder does have a bit of wear. Otherwise, everything is in good condition.Back in 2002, Windows XP Service Pack 1 introduced then-new features and updates, such as Set Program Access and Defaults, USB 2.0 support, post-RTM bug fixes, Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, and support for features of Media Center Edition and Tablet PC variants of Windows XP. This Service Pack 1a counterpart released a while later in 2003, however, lacks Microsoft Java Virtual Machine due to a prior Oracle settlement. So Windows XP Service Pack 1a is technically the same thing as Windows XP Service Pack 1, just minus Microsoft Java Virtual Machine.Windows XP is very unique for featuring a tour software program in two formats: a Flash animated tour, and a webpage counterpart with text and images. In this OS edition, the Windows XP Tour has five different sections to explore: Windows XP Basics, Best for Business, Safe and Easy Personal Computing, Unlock the World of Digital Media, and The Connected Home and Office. They describe the main features of Windows XP, how great Windows XP is for digital media and businesses, and more.In the early 2000s and mid 2000s, first-time Windows XP users as well as first-time computer users enjoyed the built-in Windows XP Tour software. Nowadays, reliving the Windows XP Tour is a fantastic option (in the style of exploring its features all over again like new, so to speak). Here's an interesting fact: The Windows XP Tour's Unlock the World of Digital Media chapter, "Optimized For Games and DVDs," shows official websites of Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2: WW II Pacific Theater and Dungeon Siege, which unfortunately are no longer accessible without the Internet WayBack Machine Archive due to discontinued support of both Microsoft PC games. This OS service pack contains the following sample music, which can be played in the default Windows Media Player 8 software:1. Seattle Symphony - Beethoven Symphony No. 9 (Scherzo) (short version) (Classical) 2. New Stories - Highway Blues (short version) (Jazz) 3. David Byrne - Like Humans Do (radio edit) (full version) (Alternative Rock) There are also some default MIDI sequences to be played in Windows Media Player, which were included for speaker testing purposes (a technique Microsoft has been doing for their Windows operating systems since the year 2000):1. Flourish 2. One Stop 3. Town There are several default PC games to play: 1. FreeCell 2. Hearts 3. Internet Backgammon 4. Internet Checkers 5. Internet Hearts 6. Internet Reversi 7. Internet Spades 8. Minesweeper 9. Pinball (3D Pinball: Space Cadet) (A demo/trial version of Maxis' Full Tilt! Pinball previously featured in Microsoft Plus! Companion for Windows 95, as well as Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows ME. A re-release of this game counterpart for Windows 10 and Windows 11 eventually came out in October 2022 and can be downloaded from the official Microsoft website. Therefore, this classic game can still be played by using various methods to this day.) 10. Solitaire Spider 11. SolitairePlease note: All the default Internet games were MSN Gaming Zone-based, and they may not work anymore since sadly, Microsoft shut their original online play servers down in 2019.The default web browser is Internet Explorer 6, and the default e-mail client is Outlook Express 6. MSN Explorer 6, a subscription-based program for MSN websites, e-mail and instant messaging, is also featured, alongside Windows Messenger. Please note that MSN Explorer 6 and Windows Messenger may not work anymore due to discontinued support for them. Windows Movie Maker 1.1, an amateur video editing program, can be used to create and edit videos on Windows XP Professional SP1a. A 12-second-long Windows Movie Maker 1.1 sample video file featuring a little boy playing at a park and its playground is available to watch on this OS version. One text-to-speech voice is included in this computer operating system: Microsoft Sam (SAPI5 version). If you are looking for a Windows XP installation method and intending to relive the excitement of Windows XP Professional's features, this is the classic CD-ROM for you. Please note: This is the Upgrade release of Windows XP Professional SP1a, though it provides options for either an upgrade or a new installation. In order to use it for the Windows XP Professional SP1a operating system installation process, you will need an actual PC or a virtual machine in an OS emulator like Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 or 2007, Oracle VM VirtualBox or VMware, with either one of the previous Windows operating systems installed:1. Windows 952. Windows NT 4.0 3. Windows 984. Windows 20005. Windows ME (Windows Millennium Edition)This operating system CD-ROM set is a fantastic piece of history to have since it is a very nifty look at what Microsoft Windows operating systems used to be like back in the day. It's also an excellent reminder of what the industries of computers, Internet, hardware, and software were like almost a quarter of a century ago, so it will bring you back to the truly golden years of Microsoft and Windows. Everything on both discs is worth reliving comparing to today's unacceptable nonsense related to Microsoft, Windows, and more. I accept PayPal.
