Description: For sale is this Ludwig Rock/Concert Snare Drum, catalogue model no. 472, c. 1980. Features: 6.5” x 14” 6-ply maple (or maple/poplar) shell with no reinforcement rings White marine pearl finish (NOTE: this is a re-wrap, not the original wrap) P-87 strainer/P-34 butt (cam-action throw-off and individual snare strand tensioning) 12 strand snares, catalogue no. 1109 – a combination of 8 wire/4 gut strands, individually adjustable Ten Ludwig twin-tension classic “bowtie” lugs Triple-flanged steel counter hoops Knob tone control This drum model is featured in the 1980 – 1984 Ludwig catalogues. The combination of metal wire and gut snare strands gives it a unique sound and as suggested by the “Rock/Concert” title, it sounds great in orchestral/band and popular music settings. During the re-wrap process the blue/olive badge was damaged and couldn’t be re-used (hence the un-finished air hole). The P-87 strainer is a bit stiff when switching between the on and off positions and takes some getting used to. The white marine pearl re-wrap was professionally applied and is in excellent condition. The chrome on the bowtie lugs, tone control knob, butt plate and counter hoops is in outstanding condition (45 years of wear considered), with just a little tarnish present on the P-87 strainer. There is also a tiny hole in the shell, just above the P-87 strainer, the purpose for which is unknown to me (see photo). Ships within the contiguous United States only.
