Description: Selling a large lot of 34 fossil scallop shells and shell fragments belonging to extinct scallops species including the Lion's paw looking, Chesapecten septenarius. Found in April 2024 on the northern shore of Amelia Island, Nassau County, Florida. These fossils sometimes wash ashore because the St. Mary's River inlet is an important entrance channel for submarines at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base and the inlet is occasionally dredged to keep it deep enough. That dredging opens up ancient beds of extinct Chesapecten species which then wash ashore. This is a nice collection of such fossil bivalves. Free shipping in the USA.
