Description: The W.H.Grindley & Co. was founded at the Newfield Pottery in 1880 by William Harry Grindley and Mr. Turner. This beautiful, large rectangular brown transfer-ware platter is the "Burma" pattern. A wonderful aesthetic pattern of birds and butterflies hovering over a pond filled with water lilies, cattails and other foliage. Near one end of the platter are gorgeous intermixed designs of a variety of flowers and geometric forms. The platter measures an impressive 18" in length and 13" in width. Along the underside border is the printed mark incorporating a globe and steamer ship with "Burmah - W H Grindley & Co. - Tunstall", circa 1880-1891. The added English Registry mark has the date code "K" indicating 1883. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; excellent condition. Marked 58 as well.
