Description: Description: This is an antique cloisonne box made during the end of Meiji ~ early Showa period (ca. 1905 ~ 1935) in Shippocho town (the mecca of Japanese cloisonne nearby Nagoya) of Japan. As you can see from the photos, it shows exquisite craftsmanship. Its quality of the work is amazing. The box itself is so splendid like a jewelry. On the lid, butterbur and its sprout is depicted. They have a little bitter taste and it is a typical wild spring vegetable in Japan. We feel spring when we see butterbur sprouts come out of the ground. And, we eat them in many ways such as Tempra. It is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or dings on the cloisonne part. Cloth part is kelp quite well. Slight sign of aging is seen on the metal part, which is consistent with the age. It is stored in a newly custom-made paulownia box, which is best to keep valuable artifacts in safe for long time.
