Directed by LARRY HAGMAN, co-scripted by JACK WOODS, story & produced by JACK H. HARRIS. TAGLINE : "it's loose again eating everyone!" - A technician brings a frozen specimen of the original Blob back from the North Pole. When his wife accidentally defrosts the thing, it terrorizes the populace, including the local hippies, kittens, and bowlers. Also known as BEWARE! THE BLOB. CAST includes Larry Hagman, Robert Walker Jr, Gwynne Gilford (debut), Richard Stahl, Richard Webb, Shelley Berman, Godfrey Cambridge, Carol Lynley, Marlene Clark, Gerrit Graham, J.J. Johnston, Danny Goldman, Rockne Tarkington, Dick Van Patten, Tiger Joe Marsh, Del Close, Cindy Williams, Sid Haig, Jack H. Harris, Burgess Meredith, Randy Stonehill, Larry Norman, Conrad Rothmann. BEHIND THE SCENES TRIVIA : In an interview in Fangoria magazine, screenwriter Anthony Harris stated that a good portion of the filmed material was improvised on the set and that the script was ignored. The enormous success of The Blob (1958) led producer Jack H. Harris to try to do a sequel. Richard Clair had already written a script titled "A Chip Off the Old Blob," but the project had been shelved for many years. In late-1970, Harris' son, Anthony Harris, who had just graduated from USC and was working with a music publishing company, expressed interest in working with his father. Looking for a project, they both agreed on the "Blob" sequel. Larry Hagman, who owned the beach house next door to Harris, mentioned that he had never seen the original The Blob (1958). Harris showed Hagman his personal 16mm print of the film, and he showed such interest, Hagman told Harris he would be able to assemble his friends for the cast, as he felt everyone wanted to be "Blobbed"... but only on the condition he would direct the picture. "Beware! The Blob" was intended as a December, 1971 release, but was held back until June, 1972 to capitalize on the lucrative summer movie and drive-in theater audience. An exceptional film marketer, Harris later paired the movie with other films he to which held the rights (notably Equinox), and renamed the film "Son of Blob" in some markets as a test title. The film premiered on television in 1974. VIEWER COMMENT : "Hagman does Corman.....sorta! Larry Hagman had two weeks free, and wanted to have some fun, so...he put together a GREAT group of his Hollywood pals in cameo parts, paired with a ton of "red jell-o", and made a grade-z horror comedy! In his only directed movie, Hagman provides far more laughs than gasps. The original script was tossed aside, and everyone improvised the 90 minute run time! The result is a camp classic, right up (or 'down) there with flicks like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" and "Plan 9 From Outers Space!"
