Description: Presented is a wonderful quality Chinese export silver snuffbox, dating to circa 1820-1840. The box is extraordinarily well made from thick silver for its size, with a nice feeling of weight and quality in the hand. The exterior is finely engraved with an intricate design of horizontal stripes, alternating ropetwist with pinstripe and a more ribbon like design. The lid has a rectangular cartouche, which has never been monogrammed. The interior has a rich gold wash. This box is stamped on the interior of the lid with the pseudo-English hallmark CU, likely for prominent Chinese export silver retailer out of Canton, Cutshing. The box is nitric acid tested and guaranteed at least 900 purity silver. This piece is in excellent condition. The hinge is in great shape and the lid closes well. The details of the design are remarkably crisp and clean. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The box has approximate dimensions of 2 5/8 by 1 5/8 by 5/8 of an inch, LxWxH. This piece weighs 60.3 grams or 2.1 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
