S. Ritchie & Sons Boston Nautical Compass is rated in Very Good, Presentable and Collectible Condition. SPECIFICS: The wooden box measure 8 3/4" Wide x 9 3/4" Long x 5 1/2" Tall with a brass nautical compass presented inside. The box is nailed together, has no lid, displays no maker's mark, and shows age related patina and wear. The brass compass sits inside the box on a brass gimbal support system that enables the compass to move freely within box. The compass measures 6" diameter, and the directional dial is housed under glass that is surrounded by a thick brass bezel ring that displays the following manufacturer's markings in several places: "E. S. Ritchie & Sons, 110261, Boston. The demarcations on the face of the dial are clear and readable, the the dial moves freely. The center hub of the dial is patinaed with light rusting visible near screw. Brass is also nicely patinaed, and shows green verdigris throughout. All is original to this piece.
