General Description: Early blooming large deciduous shrub, known to be a harbinger for spring. In upstate New York there is no better indicator that winter is over than when the yellow blossoms of the old time favorite, the forsythia shrub, peak out and say hello. The prettiest sight is to see a red cardinal sitting on its branches in late winter or early spring. A true beauty. They can be trained and trimmed to offer a very nice natural fence or be used as a border plant. They respond very well to heavy trimming. After flowering each year, they need to be wrangled back and trimmed to a manageable size. But they can stand alone and be a beautiful center piece to any front yard.
