Description: Here we have a wonderfully detailed model ship kit by Billing Boats: the "Elbjorn Icebreaker" Billing Boats (B536) Elbjorn Ice Breaker Ship - Model Boat & Fittings is a scale model ice breaker ship. It was built by Frederikshavn Shipyard & Flydedok. The keel was laid on April 16, 1952, and launched in 1953. In the period 1954 - 1996 M/S Elbjørn was an active part of the Danish icebreaker service. It's career as icebreaker ended abruptly on February 12th, 1996, when a DC dynamo exploded. Elbjørn proceeded to a port under its own power, but it was clear that its icebreaker days were over. Today, Elbjørn operates at Aalborg’s waterfront as a restaurant and museum.
