Description: This amazing and intricate mortise lock, built between 1928 and 1930 was recovered from the Louis J. Lefkowitz State Office building in lower Manhattan after a major renovation in the 1990's. The lock was commissioned by the Cauldwell Vingate company of builders and architects for the Sergent lock company, New Haven Conn. to hand build. Based on the robustness of the lock, it appears to have been made for use in a specialty area of the building such as an executive board room or for a state appointed commissioner. We contacted the Sargent Lock company and they were amazed by the construction and technology of this example. This beautiful art deco lock captures the 'The Great Gatsby era' of New York City and is a must have for any serious collector of the period. The cylinder can be replaced by a master lock technician for practical use. Solid Brass with Nickel plating weighing over six pounds. Some wear and tear.
