Description: Staffordshire Russet Comforter Spaniel This little fellow exudes a tremendous amount of charm. Exquisitely painted and modeled it has a ton of character. Hard to find Size 6. Mid to late 19th Century. Measures approx. 5.5"H X 3" W. Documentation: Harding Victorian Staffordshire, Book 2, p. 174 Condition: Chip to nose and ear, paint flakes, gunk to bottom (removeable), minor imperfections to be expected. The Spaniel Dogs, were a staple of the Victorian household and assimilate just as well in a present day. The origin or inspiration is thought to be the pet King Charles Spaniel "Dash", kept by Queen Victoria, as a child, who became her contest component when she became Queen. The first comforters appeared at the beginning of the 1840's and continued in production into the 1900's.
