Description: Antique Chinese Bronze Hu Vessel 8 Immortals Mask Handles 4 Character Mark Presented is a wonderful antique Chinese bronze censer or planter, dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The bronze is done in a broad hu form, with very animated demon mask form handles and round scenic panels in recessed relief around the body. There are eight panels, each with a red patinated finish, each depicting one of the Eight Immortals. The scenes are nicely detailed and well done, showing not just the figures but specific scenes from their tales, with various other characters, animals, accoutrements, and repeating background patterns. The bronze itself has a nice patina, with traces of red patinated finish picking out the handles and around the underside and foot. This piece is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, and no repairs. The underside of the piece is signed with a four character mark (??? are three but the first is hard to make out), a two character mark ??, (characters for "wood" and "bell?"), and a raised round chop or stamp type mark in seal script. This piece stands about 6 3/4 inches tall at the rim and measures about 7 1/2 inches in diameter at the widest point. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
