Description: A great PIP (Picture in Picture) Ambrotype A lovely Young woman sits for her picture, holding a cased image in her hands The ambrotype is clear glass with a dark cloth piece backing brass mat and preserver are tarnished Case is listed in Berg 3rd as 3-104 Geometric (C) Case is 1/6th Rectangle, measures approx. 3-1/2" x 3-7/8" x 1" (closed) Condition:Ambrotype is in good condition - light dust and some age to the glass - image shows clearly. The piece seems to have been fiddled with - the preserver is adhered to the felt lining pieces and there is some glue residue on the board piece behind the image. Cloth backing is present behind the image. The case has some cracks on the edges and flea-bite chips along the edges as well. Hinges are intact and clasp is working.
