Antiques & Collectibles from Shangri-La is Made For the Art of Collecting. --> --> Antique 18C Chinese Porcelain Encre de Chine Qianlong dish Chine de Commande Read Carefully!! --> Description Made during the reign of the Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795) en-grisaille plate c1740. made at the kilns at Jingdezhen for export to Europe. The decoration to the centre is based on an European etching of the period showing an aristocratic lady dressed as a shepherdess holding a lamb. In Georgian Britain there was a phase of High society balls based around what were perceived as the more romantic lower class occupations. Obviously they dressed in their finery rather than actual peasant clothing. The painting is heightened with peach / light pink flesh tones. Border of of orange and gilt of lines and dagger border The original painting is after Rosalba Carrier and the etching by a Claudde Duflos between 1700-1727. Chinese porcelains decorated in ink colour became popular in Europe around 1740, and until about 1790 continental clients continued to order them, especially for armorials, because the ink-colour process so readily duplicated the engraved bookplates supplied to the decorators as source materials. The technique may have been developed first for use on glass in the 1660s in Germany, where it was called schwarzlot. Eighteenth-century shipping records sometimes may have referenced it as pencilled ware because it was executed with a thin brush called a pencil. Albert Jacquemart dubbel it encre-de-Chine. Another name Jesuit ware was used still later due in part to the many examples of ceramics with religious motifs that incorporated this technique. En grisaille, another popular term used to refer to this technique, is inappropriate as it refers to works in various media in shades of gray and brown, and it does not convey the quality or technique evident in them. The Dutch terms were zwart geemailleerd or zwart goed (black-eneameled or black goods), and the state inventory of Johannes van Bergen van der Gijp (1713-1784) lists his porcelain as swarte kunst (black art). Works incorporating the reddish enamel known in China as zhucai (yellowish-red colour-or sepia often are grouped with ink-colour wares as well —————————————————————————————————————— Important information Auction We start an auction every week, a nice opportunity to buy pieces for good prices; https://www.ebay.com/str/antiquefromshangrila?LH_Auction=1 Combined shipment We combine shipment and have over 2500 fixed listings in store, always good to take a look if you see other items you like to save some shipping and mother nature: https://www.ebay.com/usr/theceramics_and_collectibles All will be packed neat and sent track and trace and insurance.
