Description: A little science lesson first, courtesy of Wikipedia ... Mucilage is a thick gluey substance produced by nearly all plants and some microorganisms. Mucilage is edible. It is used in medicine as it relieves irritation of mucous membranes by forming a protective film. It is known to act as a soluble, or viscous, dietary fiber that thickens the fecal mass, an example being the consumption of fiber supplements containing psyllium seed husks. Mucilage mixed with water has been used as a glue, especially for bonding paper items such as labels, postage stamps, and envelope flaps. And now on to this listing ... Offered here is an 1890s eight-sided aqua blue glass Peerless mucilage bottle. Stands about 3″ tall. Hand finished rolled lip with a smooth base. The “Peerless” mucilage is much harder to come by than the Stickwell. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or unusual wear EXCEPT for one tiny (and I do mean tiny) fleabite to the rim that you have to have a magnifying glass to see. (See close up photo). It's probably more accurately described as a rough spot rather than a chip. If you are a collector of antique mucilage bottles, this hard-to-find piece is a must-have for your collection! I am listing many other items on eBay, including other collectible bottles. So please check my other listings, as I will be happy to combine shipping. I do not accept returns. Please examine the description and photos carefully, and ask questions if you are unsure. ABSOLUTELY NO RETURNS OR EXCHANGES!
