Description: 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky Rookie Card #18 BGS 2.5 - FACTORY PRINT ERROR! This graded Wayne Gretzky rookie card has seen better days; but, it may be a possible one of a kind or 1/1. It was pulled from a large box of other loose cards, miraculously not bent. It has obvious signs of wear (on the corners/edges), but a great overall card surface. So, why did it grade so low? This card received a 2.5 grade from Beckett because it has three (3) pen mark Xs on the back of the card. Apparently, a previous owner did not know the value of it & had marked it up at some point in its life. It also could have possibly been written on by a child who perhaps owned the card, previously. The million dollar question; what is the error?! This one particular Gretzky rookie card has what appears to be a factory print error on the reverse. Mixed in among the three (3) pen mark Xs, there appears to be a portion where the blue colouring of the hockey skate, has bled onto the black outline portion. Upon close inspection, it appears to be a factory error (because a drop of liquid could not cause the ink bleeding effect seen on this card). Beckett, when grading this item, somehow missed that very obvious flaw. When attempting to research possible Gretzky rookie card errors, no information is available online. All I could find was information pertaining to identifying fakes. A new owner, has the potential to cross grade this card with a grading company that would label it correctly as an error. Once proper research & identification is confirmed by a grading company, this card has the potential to be a 1/1 factory print error.
