Arthur Ashe makes a return to West Germany's Wilhelm Bungert in the opening match Saturday of the Davis Cup Challenge Round in Cleveland, Ohio. Ashe won 6-2, 10-8, 6-2, to give the United States a 1-0 lead. Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. was an American professional tennis player who won three Grand Slam titles. Ashe was the first black player selected to the United States Davis Cup team and the only black man ever to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open.
