This is an original press photo. Coils, ducts, wires and cables snake around the electron atom smasher built by the Midwestern Universities Research association near Lake Kegonsa (Dane county). Working on the accelerator, which is an advanced type of atom smasher, ,were (from left) Donald Young, Michael Shea, Roger Otte and James Hogan, all of Madison. About 100 persons have worked for five years to develop the accelerator, which will be used for fundamental research. Photo measures 10 x 8 inches. Photo is dated 09-17-1961.
