(TCMA). While many TCMA sets are actual reprints of earlier works, this card is NOT a reprint edition but an original issued in 1983. It was intended to provide baseball hobbyists with a continuation of the popular Play Ball series begun in 1939 and discontinued after 1941 due to the onset of World War II. This card is featured in the style and format of Gum, Incorporated's highly desired 1940 Play Ball series. These cards are nicely executed with indepth biographies. *This variation "B" differs from the usual TCMA 1942 Play Ball card in that: It measures standard card size (2-1/2" by 3-1/2") - not the usual 2-1/2" by 3-1/8" It is printed with black ink on white stock - not blue ink on dark stock The picture is black and white - not sepia The MLB logo is printed on the back We have been aware of a few standard (2-1/2" by 3-1/2") TCMA Play Ball cards for several years but only recently acquired a group of several different and decided to give them a closer look. As one former Yankee is reported to have said, "You can sometimes see things just by looking." Note: A usual TCMA Play Ball card (2-1/2" by 3-1/8") is provided for comparision.
