1913P (TYPE ONE) INDIAN/BUFFALO NICKEL #A - C/S "ED" ON OBVERSE

Description: 1913P (TYPE ONE) INDIAN/BUFFALO NICKEL #A C/S FIRST YEAR OF ISSUE STAMPED “ E D “ ON THE OBVERSE The so-called Indian/Buffalo nickel was designed by sculptor James Earl Frasier (his “F” initial appears below the date), and it was coined from 1913 to early 1938. He used three Native Americans to model for the obverse: Iron Tail (Sioux), Big Tree (Kiowa) and Two Moons (Cheyenne). The reverse actually shows an American Bison rather than a buffalo! These coins are often considered our “Most American Coin”! The very first 1913 nickels placed the ‘buffalo’ standing on a raised mound with “FIVE CENTS” above rim level. It was soon realized that this would allow the denomination to quickly wear off, so new dies were prepared with the buffalo standing on a flat plain with “FIVE CENTS” recessed below rim level. The first coins with the new modified reverse were struck on May 10, 1913. The last Indian/Buffalo nickels were coined in 1938 - and only at the Denver, Colorado Mint. This example represents one of the very first of the type to be coined. While the coin’s overall grade is that of Good, someone added an incused “ E D “ stamping on the obverse!. Throw Trends Value out the window … I think I’ve priced it to sell. I have collected coins since 1959, and the so-called “Buffalo Nickel” was always a favorite of mine. Due to age and health, I’ve decided it’s time for my coins to find a new home/caretaker! Winning bidder pays $.63 shipping in a regular envelope. I will combine shipping on multiple coin purchases when possible. Thanks for looking - and good luck with your bids!
