Published and printed locally in Bristol for the Bristol Naturalists Society, an still existing organisation that aims to promote the study of natural history in Bristol and the conservation of these environmental sites. It was established in 1862. Edited by James Walter White, the former Honorary Secretary of the Botanical Section of the Bristol Naturalists Society. Containing the bookplate of Harold E. Matthews to the verso of the front free-endpaper, and the ink signature of Harold E. Matthews to the title page. This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. CONDITION In the original buckram binding with gilt stamping to the front board and spine. Externally, smart, with slight bumping to the extremities. A small bit of adhesive to the tail of the spine and some light shelf wear to the front board. Previous owner's bookplate to the verso of the front free-endpaper. Previous owner's ink signature to the title page. Internally, front hinge is slightly tender to page iv. Book is generally firmly bound. A few spots to the fore-edge and light pencil annotations throughout, but otherwise pages are clean.
